Description and the application recommendations

To protect wood from the threat of fire by treating it with the special fire retarded liquid which reduces combustibility of materials and constructions and enhances the level of fire safety is the mandatory requirements for all buildings, premises and facilities of any types – residential, commercial, public, industrial, office, hotels, etc. Protection of the wood and wood based products from flame and fire by treating them with antipiren FAP is a fire prevention measure to enhance the fire safety of closed wood building constructions, which are not under exposure of the rainfall.

If wood, wood constructions and its elements are treated with antipiren FAP and in accordance with the standards LVS, their fire resistance capacity will be maximum B-s1, d0. Wood and wood-based products, which are treated by antipiren FAP, are becoming not only fire and smoke retardant, but also mold, insect and fungus resistant.

Quality characteristics of antipiren FAP and treated samples

  • Appearance and color of the antipiren FAP: Clear
  • Density 20°C, g/cm3: 1,24; no less
  • Drying period (at 20°C): 6h; no less
  • After drying period, coating looks clear, slightly opaqu,
(by using a variety of colors, it is possible to get colored coating): 0 -1

Application method for treatment of wood and wood based products with antipiren FAP

In proceeding with application the following rules should be observed:

  • The moisture content of the treated wood and wood products should not be exceeded 15%, minimal thickness of the material is 20 mm.
  • Antipiren is applied to the wood surface with spray applicator or with other painting tools (brush or roller).
  • Depending on the type of wood, moisture, configuration and smoothness of the surface (sawed or dressed wood surface), the normative application rate of antipiren is approximately 350 g/m2.
  • During treatment, the ambient temperatures must be no less than 5°C and relative air humidity is not exceeded 70%. High ambient temperatures and temperature of the liquid are positively influenced on the wood soaking process. All sides of the wood constructions should be treated by the antipiren liquid (cold or warmed to 50...60°C).
  • Allow no less than 6 hours between coats.
  • Before application, dust and dirt must be removed from the wood and wood based products.
  • The wood constructions, which had been varnished or painted (including oil-based paints, adhesives or silicate paints), are not to be fire resistant until all such coatings will be thoroughly removed.
  • The wood and wood based products, which are treated by antipiren FAP should not be mechanically processed, as in this case the protective layer will be removed. After each mechanical proceeding, treatment of the wood constructions by antipiren must be repeated.
  • Application of the antipiren should be even, with complete coverage and with thoroughly treatment of gaps and joints of separate elements.
  • After drying, the coating looks clear and virtually does not impact on characteristics of treated wood construction.
  • To make a good look of the constructions after treatment they may be coated by the other fire resistant varnish and paints.
  • If maintenance and use of wood constructions is in conformity with the building codes and standards, the warranty and life expectancy of the coating with antipiren FAP is 5 years.

ATTENTION! When applying antipiren FAP to wood and wood-based products, please, keep away liquid from metal surfaces, including metal roof as antipiren FAP is capable to accelerate corrosion of material.

Safety and Environment Protection

  • Antipiren FAP and its components are not explosive, noncombustible and non-toxic
  • The workers should be provided with special clothing, rubber gloves, protective goggles, respirator or masks. If during application the antipiren or their component does come into contact with skin, wipe it off with water and soap. The place of contact is recommended to lubricate by oily or moisturizing cream.
  • If antipiren components are scattered immediately picked them up and if they are spilled clear the surface from the spilled antipiren. It is not allowed to dispose antipiren into ground and basin.
